Retread is a short format video inspired by Ron Fricke's 1992 film Baraka. Charting a similar course with its cinematographic journeys around the globe, Retread swaps out the 70mm panoramic shots of urban and remote landscapes found in the original for footage sampled from a variety of American SUV television commercials. In the case of each commercial, the automobile was digitally removed, with all of the advertisements subsequently pieced together to form one continuous whole. The edit was finished by inserting 'retreads' (industry jargon for TV jingles composed for a particular client that were never used, but instead recycled for other potential clients), sans product voice over, as the soundtrack.
