Retread is a short form video inspired by Ron Fricke's 1992 film Baraka. Charting a similar course with its cinematographic journeys around the globe, Retread replaces the 70mm panoramic shots of urban and remote landscapes found in the original movie with footage sampled from a variety of American SUV television commercials. In each commercial, the automobile was digitally removed, with all of the advertisements subsequently pieced together to form one continuous episode. The edit was finished by inserting musical "retreads" (industry jargon for TV jingles composed for a particular client that were never used, but instead recycled for other potential clients), sans product voice over, as the soundtrack.
