Victory Virtual is a horizontally formatted poster available for free download. Its content—a chronological timeline and set of three found photographs—traces the development of a few of today's large-scale, music-industry related businesses: Sony, Yamaha, and Steinway, through the framework of United States military history. Beginning with Steinway's "Victory Vertical" government-issue piano, the text interweaves a narrative of war, patriotism, of music instrument manufacturing, recording, and playback technologies, and the birth of the transnational conglomerate. The work ponders the dynamic nature of nationalism and market economics in the context of music as leisure activity and troop morale booster.
